Operator Info

Start:

End:

This ICON project is the first step towards the on-going ambition to turn operators into knowledge workers.
In this project the research will focus on providing assembly operators with the right information at the right time and in the right format, depending on the context of the current assembly operation. Moreover, information will be automatically customized to the personal preferences, needs and experience of each operator. The research will also address the behavioural reaction of the operators.
The aim is to develop complete generic system characteristics (architecture, information structure, interfaces, wearability of devices) with the use of augmented reality and or moving displays as a basic approach to the different use cases. Possible feedback from the operator will be included, but limited to flagging problems and discrepancies in order to minimize the attention bandwidth and allowing hands-free operations.

Goals:
·       Research: To understand how information towards the operators can be selected and presented in order to receive visual, auditory, tactile relevant information when needed. The selection process needs to be dynamic and available to the operator himself.
·       Target: To improve the information flow and reduce the cognitive load for the operator involved in complex manufacturing and assembly processes.
