My main topic of interest is language evolution. How did human language get to be how it is? I am particularly interested in the emergence of linguistic structure (phonology, morphology and syntax) and how modality (speech or sign), iconicity and social factors influence linguistic structure. My main tool of investigation is articial signalling experiment, but I am currently looking to branch out into methods using big data and corpus analysis.
