Axel Abels is currently completing a joint PhD programme facilitated by the VUB AI Lab and the ULB Machine Learning Group. We were happy to welcome him last week in the lecture room of the Artificial Intelligence Lab to hear him present his research on Collective decision-making. Collective decision-making occurs when a group pulls its knowledge to select the best option from a set of alternatives. In this presentation he talked about how learning with expert advice can be exploited to model simple collective decision-making and how existing algorithms that tackle this problem can be augmented to take advantage of honest confidence estimates.
