The AI Lab is proud to welcome the Cuban researchers Yailen Martinez Jimenéz and Jessica Coto Palacio in our institute and assist them in their research. They work together with Ann Nowé, the head of the Artificial Intelligence Lab, on the research titled ‘Multi-Agent Reinforcement Learning Tool for Job Shop Scheduling Problems’. The project focuses on minimising the time required to complete all tasks in scheduling scenarios.
They compare the performance of two alternatives for optimizing the schedule once the user has fixed some operations; the classical left shifting and a modified Q-Learning algorithm, which includes the position of the fixed operations in the learning process. This research addresses the technological developments which have been increasingly implemented in industry performance. Together with the new information technologies, intelligent factories have emerged, often referred to as Industry 4.0 (i4.0). This revolution combines intelligent and adaptive systems employing shared knowledge among diverse heterogeneous platforms for computational decision-making.
