I am a postdoctoral researcher at the AI Lab of Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB). My research focuses on the emergence of cooperation in decentralised systems of agents. In particular, I investigate how partial observability and environmental uncertainty influence the strategies developed by agents trained via reinforcement learning. I am particularly interested in settings that resemble social dilemmas – such as the public goods game – where cooperative behavior is crucial, but difficult to emerge and sustain.
Before, I completed my PhD at the University of Groningen under the supervision of Davide Grossi, Roxana Radulescu and Erman Acar. My dissertation, titled “Cooperation under Uncertain Incentive Alignment”, explores how cooperative behavior can arise when agents need to operate under uncertain and/or misaligned incentives, and can be found here.
