Maxime Toquebiau is a postdoctoral researcher at the AI Lab of VUB. His research is focused on language origins and evolution. Specifically, he uses mutli-agent deep reinforcement learning to model the emergence of language in populations of artificial agents playing language games. The goal of this research is to get a better understanding of the mechanisms involved in the emergence of human languages.
Before coming to the VUB, Maxime completed a PhD in Robotics and AI at Sorbonne Université, in Paris, France. During his PhD, he studied ways to improve multi-agent deep reinforcement learning algorithms, specifically regarding the problems of multi-agent exploration and communication.
