Atelier directed by Matthew Yee-King
Live coding is a new direction in electronic music and video, and is starting to get somewhere interesting. Live coders expose and rewire the innards of software while it generates improvised music and/or visuals. All code manipulation is projected for your pleasure.
In this Atelier, you will learn how to do some basic livecoding using the SuperCollider language and will perform in a short concert at the end.

BIO
Matthew Yee-King is a Lecturer in the computing department at Goldsmiths College, University of London. He has been lecturing at higher education institutions including Sussex University, City University and Goldsmiths for about 6 years. He has taught a range of subjects including computer programming, music technology, audio-visual computing and web development. He received a DPhil in computer science and AI from Sussex University where his thesis topic was automated sound synthesizer programming. He is also a long term practitioner of electronic music, having released 3 solo albums as well as many collaborations with jazz musicians and contemporary classical composers, amongst others. He is currently involved in research applying argumentation based agent technology to the enhancement of online cultural experiences, a continuation of his work with signal processing and AI. He is also working on the implementation and evaluation of innovative techniques for the enhancement of student learning online and in the classroom.
