Current man-machines interfaces are pre-programmed and require that the human adapts to the preconceived interface of the machine. We propose instead a negotiated user interface. Machines and humans both have the capacity to invent interfaces and they arrive at a shared set of communicative conventions by negotiation in which both sides adopt to the other.

Human-agent interactions are monitored and evaluated with respect to the feasibility of this new mode of man-machine interaction. Human users can give feedback commenting on their reactions.
