Case models
Here three categories of states are described in which the problem
solver can be in the problem solving mode (in contrast with knowledge
acquisition mode).

- In ESC the intermediate case models (states) represent
problems, solution, source problem, source solution quadruples. The
pairs represent different stages of the case based reasoning process.
- The initial case model (start state) represents the problem with
an empty source problem, source solution slots.
- The solution case model (end state) represents a quadruple in
which the problem has been matched on a source case, and the source
solution has been extrapolated to form the solution.
