This chapter describes the use of role limiting methods (RLM) within the Commonkads library. Cover & differentiate, Propose & refine and `extrapolate from a similar case'. These role limiting methods are introduced as modelling operators in the Commonkads library.

We present these RLM's independently from their common field of application and we separately provide applications on diagnosis, classification, assessment and design tasks. The applicability of a RLM is not limited to one single type of task. They can in fact be used for modelling problem solving in several domains in which a set of assumptions holds. The translation of assumptions and domain organization from method to task terminology is not a simple procedure; it requires understanding both of the method and of the domain. The RLM's in this document are described by a detailed specification of their domain organization, task structure and inference structure. It has been tried to make the descriptions closely reflect the CommonKads framework, but they can also be read and understood without this framework.
