3 PhD positions on the Evolution of Combinatorial Speech

Bart de Boer is looking for 3 PhD students for his ERC project ABACUS (Advancing Behavioral and Cognitive Understanding of Speech). The project is about investigating (the evolution of) cognitive adaptations for dealing with combinatorial speech. It uses a combination of iterated learning experiments, individual learning experiments and computational modeling.

Distinguished paper presentation by Joachim De Beule at BeNeLearn 2012

Joachim De Beule's paper titled "Overcoming the Tragedy of the Commune in the Hawk-Dove Game through Conventional Coding" has been selected as distinguished paper at the annual Belgian-Dutch Conference on Machine Learning (BeneLearn) in Ghent. He will be presenting this paper on May 24th at 11:00. You can find the full programme here.  

Katrien Beuls among Google scholarship finalists

Katrien Beuls is one of the 37 Google Anita Borg scholarship finalists, an award that honors the memory of Dr. Anita Borg, who devoted her life to encouraging the presence of women in computing and founded the Institute for Women in Technology in 1997. Tomorrow, April 3rd, BBC Horizon will broadcast a documentary about Artificial Intelligence, where Luc Steels explains our work on action language games on real robots (developed during the ALEAR research project). The program starts at 21:00 (GMT+01) on BBC2.  The program is also broadcasted on Friday April 6 at 23:30 (GMT+01) on BBC HD.
