PhD Student

Biography

Youri Coppens is a PhD student who obtained both his BSc and MSc in Computer Science at the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, respectively in the years 2014 and 2016. During his MSc program, he specialized in Artificial Intelligence.

After finishing his MSc degree, he spent a year in Japan through the Vulcanus in Japan exchange program, doing an internship at Fujitsu Laboratories Ltd. on hardware acceleration for Deep Reinforcement Learning. During his internship, Youri wrote his first publication, which won a best paper award.

Youri returned to Belgium to start a PhD program at the Artificial Intelligence Lab of the Vrije Universiteit Brussel, partly co-supervised with the Machine Learning Group of the Université Libre de Bruxelles. His research focuses on increasing the explainability of (Deep) Reinforcement Learning systems. His research topics thus include reinforcement learning and explainable machine learning.
